GIVEN :

A car is moving on a straight road with uniform acceleration.

Time = 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50

Speed = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30

TO FIND :

  • The acceleration of the car.
  • The distance travelled by the car in 50 sec.

FORMULA :

Acceleration = \dfrac {Velocity}{time}

SOLUTION :

With the help of graph,

To calculate the acceleration of the car,

Acceleration =  \dfrac {BC}{AC}

Put the values in the above formula

Acceleration = \dfrac {30-5}{50-0}

Acceleration = \dfrac {25}{50}

Acceleration = \dfrac {5}{10}

Acceleration = 0.5 m/s^{2}

To calculate the distance travelled by the car in the 50 sec,

With the help of graph,

Distance traveled by truck = Area of trapezium OABD.

D=\dfrac{1}{2}\times (AO+BD)\times OD

Put the value in the above formula,

D= \dfrac{1}{2} \times(5+30)\times50

D= \dfrac{1}{2} \times(5+30)\times50

\therefore D = 875 m

\therefore The acceleration of the car is  0.5 m/s^{2}

The distance covered by the car in 50 sec is 875 m.
