Given :-

  • A car moves with a speed of 60 Km/hr for 15 minutes and then with a speed of 80 Km/hr for next 15 minutes. Find the total distance covered by the car?

Solution :-

  • We can break down the motion of the car into 2 parts. Part 1 with velocity of 60 kmph for 15 min and part 2 with speed of 80 kmph for next 15 min.
  • First, let's find the distance covered in the first part

     ⇒ We know, v = \sf\frac{s}{t} ⇒ s = vt

        Here, let s = s₁

       s₁ = 60 × 1/4 (∵15 min = 1/4 hr)

       s₁ = 15 km ------ (1)

  • Now, let's find distance covered in second part

      (Here let s = s₂)

     s₂ = 80 × 1/4 = 20 km ----- (2)

  • Now, total distance covered (s) = s₁ + s₂ = 15 + 20 = 35 km

 Total distance covered by the car is 35 km (3500 m)
