Given:-

A boy of mass 60kg running at 3 m/s jumps on a trolley of mass 140kg moving with the velocity of 1.5m/s in the same direction .

To prove :-

With what velocity will the two moves together.

Explanation :-

First here we should calculate combined velocity .

Therefore, here combined mass of the given system

which is 60kg+140kg=200kg

Now , here we should use momentum formula,

that is ,

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

m1u1+m2u2=mv(mv is the combined mass of the system)

(60×3)+ (140×1.5)=200×v.

180+210=200×v

390= 200×v

390/200=v

v=1.95 m/s.

Therefore, at 1.95m/s the velocity moves together.

Hope it helps u mate.
