A car overtakes a truck travelling from bangalore to mysore at 8:00
a.M. The car reaches chennai at 8 p.M. After stopping there for 1 hour, it starts back towards bangalore and meets the same truck at 2:00 p.M., which was moving toward mysore at that time. If both the car and the bus were travelling at uniform speeds on the same route, then what will be the time when the bus would reach mysore?

Answer:

2 : 51 PM next day

Step-by-step explanation:

Let say Distance between  Overtaking Point & Chennai = D  km

Car reaches at 8 PM  => after 12 hours

Speed of Car = D/12  km /hr

Car wait for 1 hr and meet at 2 : 00 AM next day => after 6 hrs of 8PM

hence travels for 5 hrs more

Distance covered by Car in 5 hrs = 5D/12  km

Distance traveled by Truck = D - 5D/12  = 7D/12  km

Time taken by Truck = 18 hrs

7D/12  km Distance covered by Truck    in 18 hrs

5D/12 km Distance covered by Truck  = (18/ (7D/12) ) * (5D/12)

= 18 * 5/7

= 12 hrs 51 mins

Time taken after 2 : 00 AM  will be 12 hr 51 mins to reach Chennai

=> 2 : 51 PM next day

Assumptions :

(2 : 00 PM considered 2 : 00 AM  next day   , and Mysore considered Chennai)
