Given A student, weighing 45 kg,is running with a speed of 8 km per hr on a  foot path 2 m wide. A small car, weighing  1200 kg, is moving with a speed of 60 km  per/   hr on a 20 m wide road. Calculate their  de Broglie wavelengths.

First in the case of student we have

Given m = 45 kg, v = 8 km/ hr = 8 x 5/18

                                                 = 20 / 9 m/s

So de Broglie wavelength λ = h / mv

                                                 = 6.626 x 10^-34 / 45 x 20/9

                                                 = 6.626 x 10^-34 x 9 / 900

                                                  = 6.626 x 10 ^-36 m

Now in the case of car we have

Given m = 1200 kg v = 60 km / hr = 60 x 5/18

                                                    = 50 / 3 m/s

So de Broglie wavelength λ = h / mv

                                                 = 6.626 x 10^-34 / 1200 x 50/3

                                                 = 6.626 x 10^-34 x 3 / 1200 x 50

                                                 = 6.626 x 10^-34 / 2 x 10^4

                                                  = 3.313 x 10^-38 m
