It would take 1.5 minutes to catch the second car.

  • A car is travelling at a speed of 90 km/hr.
  • A second car is travelling at a speed of 70 km/hr.
  • Now the first car is 500 m behind the second car.
  • We have to find the time required by the first car to catch the second car.
  • Distance between both the cars is 500 m that is 0.5 km
  • Now relative speed of the cars is Speed of car 1 - Speed of car 1 = 90 - 70 = 20 km/hr.
  • Now , we know that

Speed = Distance / Time

Time = Distance / Speed

Time =  0.5 / 20 = 0.025 hr

  • Time in minutes = 0.025 × 60 = 1.5 minutes = 90 sec
  • It would take 90 seconds to satch the second car travelling 500 m ahead of first car.
