A car travelling at 72km/hr decelerates uniformly at 2m/s². Calculate (a) the distance it goes before it stops. (b) the time it takes to stop and (c) the distance it travels during the first and third seconds.

v=u+atv=u+at

0=20+(−2)t0=20+(−2)t

−20=−2t−20=−2t

t=10seconds.


v2=u2+2axv2=u2+2ax

(0)2=(20)2+2(−2)x(0)2=(20)2+2(−2)x

0=400−4x0=400−4x

−400=−4x−400=−4x

x=100metres.
