A car travels 100 Km at a uniform speed of 40 Km/h and the next 100 km at a uniform speed of 60 Km/h.Find the average speed of the car?

Average speed = total distance covered / total time taken 

Speed(av) = d1 + d2 / t1 + t2  = d1 + d2 / d1/s1 + d1/s2 

Speed(av) = 100 + 100 / 100/40 + 100/60

= 200 / 100( 1/40 + 1/60)

= 2/(1/60 + 1/40) 

= 2/(4 + 6  /240 ) 

= 2/( 10/240) 

= 2/(1/24) 

= 2 x 24 = 48 km/hr
