A long poetical narrative that is often mythical is called an epic. An epic usually has a hero who has to overcome a lot of hurdles and challenges on his way to success.

The most popular epic poems are the Illiad by Homer. Beowulf is the most ancient English text known, and that is written as an epic poetry as well.

Hope it has helped

This category of poems is called an 'epic'.

An epic is usually a long story narrated in the form of a poem. It usually tells us about legendary heroes or warriors and their adventures. As these have passed on from generation to generation orally, we have no documentary proof that these people actually existed or these events actually took place. However, they are always considered to be true according to popular belief.

The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are some examples of epics, and they are considered to be the two greatest epics written in India. As we all know, they impart the message of the triumph of good over evil, and narrate the stories of great warriors. Hence, they can be considered as epics.
