Answer:

0.3m/sec

Explanation:

Average velocity is mentioned in the form of ratio of the total displacement to the total time.

(total displacement : total time)

If we consider a graphical representation, North is a positive direction and South is a negative direction.

Car moves +8m (towards north) with a speed of 2m/s and the time taken is = distance / speed = 8/2 = 4 secs

Car moves -6m (towards south) with a speed of 3m/s and the time taken is = distance/speed = 6/3 = 2 secs

(we do not use negative sign because it is used only for the value of displacement)

Now,

Total time = 4 secs + 2 secs

                 = 6 secs

Total displacement = 8 m - 6 m

                                = 2 m

We need the average velocity

Avg. Velocity = total displacement / total time

                      = 2/6

                      = 1/3

                       = 0.3m/sec
