Given :-
- A car travels a distance of 20m
- in 5 seconds and then another 12m
- in 3 seconds.
To find :-
- Average speed of the car
Solution :-
In first case
A car travels a distance of 20m in 5 seconds
- Distance (D1) = 20m
- Time (t1) = 5s
In second case
A car travels a distance of 12m in 3seconds
- Distance (D2) = 12m
- Time (t2) = 3s
Now,
As we know that
→ Average speed = Total distance travelled/total time taken
→ Average speed = D1 + D2/t1 + t2
→ Average speed = 20 + 12/5 + 3
→ Average speed = 32/8
→ Average speed = 4m/s
Hence,
- Average speed of car is 4 m/s
