A car weighing 2000kg and moving with the speed of 20m/s is stopped in 10 sec on applying the brakes. calculate the retardation and retarding force.

a=(v-u)/t
  =(0-20)/10 = -20/10 = -2 m/s^2
retardation = -acceleration = -(-2) = 2 m/s^2
retarding force = mass x retardation
                        = 2000 x 2 = 4000 N
