A carbon compound 'p' on heating with excess conc.H2SO4 forms another compound 'Q' which on addition of hydrogen in the presence of nickel catayst forms a saturated compound 'R'.one molecule of 'R' on combustion forms two molecules of CO2 and three molecules of water.
a) identify P, Q, R
b) write chemical equation for the reactions involved.

p is ethanol. q is ethene. r is ethane
C2H5OH+H2SO4--->C2H4+H2O
C2H4+H2--------Ni----->C2H6
C2H6+O2---------->2CO2+3H2O

Hope it helps !!!

P- Ethanol
Q- Ethene
R-Ethane

Chemical equations are :
1) CH3-CH2-OH------->CH2=CH2 + H2O
2) C2H5------->C2H6
3) C2H6 + O2 --------> 2CO2 + 3H2O
