hey brother....alcohols do nnot react with alkali soln,ie, they do not undergo neutralization reaction because of their very less acidic nature....

i think u meant to say oxidation by acidified K2cr2o7..... and then, the alcohol is ethanol and thee compound x is an ester ethyl ethanoate.....
