A carpet 5 m long and 4 m wide is laid in a square room of side 7m.find the area of the floor left uncovered

Given,

Length \: of \: carpet = 5m

Breadth \: of \: carpet = 4m

Therefore \: area \: of \: carpet = l \times b

 = 4 \times 5 = 20 {m}^{2}

Now,\: side \: of \: square \: room = 7m

Therefore, \: area \: of \: room = s \times s

 = 7 \times 7 = 49 {m}^{2}

Area \: of \: floor \: left \: uncovered =

Area \: of \: room - area \: of \: carpet

49 {m}^{2}  - 20 {m}^{2}  = 29 {m}^{2}

Therefore,area of floor left uncovered is 29m^2.
