Answer:

The area of the remaining carpet = 264 sq. m

The area of the strip = 336 sq. m

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Length of the carpet = 30 m

Breadth of the carpet = 20 m

The area of the total carpet = length * breadth = (30 * 20) sq. m = 600 sq. m

After a strip of 4 m wide is cut,

The new length of the carpet = 30 m - ( 4m * 2) = 30 m - 8 m = 22 m

[ it is taken as 4 m * 2 because the carpet is cut from all around]

Similarly,

The new breadth of the carpet = 20 m - ( 4m * 2) = 20 m - 8 m = 12 m

[ same reason for taking 4m * 2]

Therefore the new area of the carpet = 22 m * 12 m = 264 sq. m

And the area of the strip = area of the total carpet - new area of the carpet = ( 600 - 264) sq. m = 336 sq. m
