If the list price is reduced by 5 then , the new list price is x-5.

A person can buy 5 more books for Rs.300 ,means

(x-5)+5(x-5)=300

x-5+5x-25=300

6x-30=300

6x=330

x=55

The original list price is Rs.55.

Reduced by 5= 50

50+5(50) gives me 300

so, the answer is 50
