Let the cost of table and chair be x & y respectively,
Thus, x + y = 100...(1)
By given condition,
x = y - 16...(2)
Substitute (2) in (1),
y-16 + y =100
Thus y = 42
Thus x = 58
Thus, x + y = 100...(1)
By given condition,
x = y - 16...(2)
Substitute (2) in (1),
y-16 + y =100
Thus y = 42
Thus x = 58

Solution :-
Given that a chair and a table together cost Rs. 100
And, the cost of a chair is Rs. 16 less than a table.
Let the cost of a table be Rs. 'x'
Therefore according to the question.
⇒ (x - 16) + x = 100
⇒ 2x - 16 = 100
⇒ 2x = 100 + 16
⇒ 2x = 116
⇒ x = 116/2
⇒ x = 58
Hence, the cost of the table is Rs. 58
