Solution:

Mass of charged particle = m

Suppose the charge of the particle be q and intensity of electric field in between plates = E.

So, During the equilibrium,

mg = qE  ...(i)

But, Since the direction of the electric field between the plate is reversed,

hence, ma = mg + qE

from (i):  ma = 2mg

or,  a = 2g

Therefore, acceleration of the charged particle If the direction of the electric field between the plate is reversed is 2g.
