NSF means Non-sufficient funds.
It is the term used in the banking industry to indicate that the bank cannot honor the check of the entity due to non availability of sufficient fund in the account of the issuing entity.
It is often referred to as a bad check, dishonored check or bounced check. If the entity wish to encash NSF check it can do so by paying a processing fee to the bank or alternatively the bank of the entity issuing the check will honor the check, and then charge an overdraft fee to the check issuer.
