Democracy is the system of government under which the government is selected by the people through elections. The majority creates the government. The people of the country are the basic decision makers of the country. They only realise their power in a democracy when:

(i) They realise that they are the deciding force of the country. Without people's will no one can formulate a government. Their right to vote is the basis of a democracy.

(ii)They know their rights according to the constitution of the country.

(iii)They utilize their rights.

(iv)They are aware of their responsibilities according to the constitution of the country.

Answer:

All governments are elected for fixed periods. In India this period is five years. Once elected, governments can stay in power only for that period. If they want to continue to be in power then they have to be re-elected by the people. This is a moment when people can sense their power in a democracy.
