A cheetah is the fastest animal and can achieve a peak velocity of 100km h-1 If the cheetah spots its prey at a distance of 100 m what is the time taken for it to catch the prey

rishilaugh: hi. it is the question of acceleration
rishilaugh: and not proper information is given. i can solve it considering uniform motion
vaishu12: but our teacher gave only this much

Hi,

Cheetah can run at 100 km/hr
Converting into M/s  i.e 100 *1000/ 3600  as 1 hour =3600 sec
we get 27.7777 m/sec

So now the prey is 100 m far

Dividing 100/27.77

We find that cheetah will reach its prey in 4 seconds

we know that
1 km/hr=5/18 m/sec
so , 100 km/hr=100x5/18 m/sec
                       =27.78 m/sec
as we know .,,,
speed= distance/time
  or , time=dist/speed
                =100/27.78 sec
                =3.59 sec               answer
