1) Its chemical name is calcium oxychloride (CaOCl2). 

2) Bleaching powder is prepared by the action of chlorine on dry slaked lime [Ca(OH)2]

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 ---->CaOCl2+ H2O 

3) When exposed to air, bleaching powder reacts with carbon dioxide in the air and releases chlorine gas.
