In the single-celled species, the single cell does all the functions of life, that is, it works independently. However, multicellular species exhibit different levels of organization within them. The individual cells may do particular activities and may also function in harmony for the betterment of the whole organism. That is, the cells become dependent on each other.  

The multicellular species exhibits the following five levels of organization varying from simplest to most composite that is, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms.
