Let the number of chocolates the child originally had, be x

S, he ate : 35x/100

Left : x- 35x/100 = x - 7x/20 = 20x/20 - 7x/20 = 13x/20

So, 13x/20 = 13 chocolates

So, x = 260/13 = 20 chocolates

Answer: The child originally had 20 chocolates with him.

let no of chocolates that the child had be x i.e. 100% of chocolates
he ate 35% of x = 35/100x = 7/20x
%age of chocolates left = (100 - 35)% = 65%
but no of chocolates left = 13
so 65% of x = 13
65/100x = 13
13/20.x = 13
x = 13(20/13)
x = 20
therefore he had 20 chocolates
