so,
perimeter of the rectangle = 2(l+b)

$88 = 2(x + x + 16) \\ \\ 88 = 2(2x +16) \\ \\ 88 = 4x + 32 \\ \\ 88 - 32 = 4x \\ \\ 56 = 4x \\ \\ \frac{56}{4} = x \\ \\ x = 14$
