cos∅ = \frac{radius\ of \ circular\  roll}{length\ of\ tie\ rod}

from the observation, ∅<90°, sin∅<1.

Tension in tie rod can be obtained from Lami's theorem:

\frac{W}{sin(2x)} = \frac{T}{sin90}               (x = ∅)

Therefore, T >w

Tension in rod is greater than the weight W of circular roller.
