HCF of 20 & 15= 5 so, n = 5 if x= no. Of boys then 20/5 =4, if y= no. Of girls then 15/5 = 3 so, x=4,y=3. Hope it helped you..

Given :  

A total of 20 boys and 15 girls in a class is divided into n number of groups which has n boys and girls.  

In a class, there are 20 boys and 15 girls .

Let x be the number of boys and y be the number of girls.

The total of 20 boys and 15 girls in a class is divided into n number of groups. This can be written as

Number of groups = 35/n

Thus, we can say that  

(x + y) = 35/n

nx + ny = 35 = 20 + 15

Total number of boys = nx = 20 = 2 × 10 or 10 × 2 or 4 × 5 or 5 × 4 .

Total number of girls= ny = 15 = 3 × 5 or  5 × 3.

Thus, nx = 5 x 4 and ny = 5 x 3 because if n = 5, that means total 35 students are  divided into 5 groups with 7 students in each group.

Hence, when n = 5 ,x = 4 , y = 3 then only it is possible.
