Let the cost of one notebook be x and cost of one pen be y
cost of 8 pens=8y
cost of 2 notebook=2x
total cost =80
2x+8y=80.....(1)
Now cost of 2 pens=2y
cost of 8 notebooks=8x
total cost=125
8x+2y=125......(2)
These are the two equations in two variables.
Your answer:(1) and (2)

Here is the answer
Let the cost of pen be 'x'
Let the cost of Notebook be 'y'
As per the question,
A clerk bought 8 pens and 2 note books for Rs 80.
![\therefore8x + 2y = 80....eq.\: 1 \therefore8x + 2y = 80....eq.\: 1](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=+%5Ctherefore8x+%2B+2y+%3D+80....eq.%5C%3A+1)
This is the first equation.
Now,
Hebought 8 notebooks and 2 pens for his daughter for Rs.125
![\therefore2x + 8y = 125...eq.2 \therefore2x + 8y = 125...eq.2](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=+%5Ctherefore2x+%2B+8y+%3D+125...eq.2)
This is the 2nd Equation.
Therefore , we got the above two equations.
