Solution :

i ) Given the outer dimensions of

the closed box :

Length ( L ) = 5 cm

Breadth ( B ) = 4 cm

Height ( H ) = 7 cm

2 ) Let the thickness of the

wood ( w ) = 1 cm

3 ) Now , Inner dimensions of

the box :

length ( l ) = L - 2w

= 5 - 2 × 1

= 3 cm

Breadth ( b ) = B - 2w

= 4 - 2×1

= 2 cm

Height ( h ) = H - 2w

= 7 - 2×1

= 5 cm

4 ) Volume of the wood used

= LBH - lbh

= 5 × 4 × 7 - 3 × 2 × 5

= 140 - 30

= 110 cm³

Therefore ,

Volume of the wood used = 110 cm³
