2/3 players were absent ==> 1/3 players were present.

Of those playing, 1/3rd were left-handed == > 1/3 of 1/3 left-handed players were playing == 1/9

Left-handed players who weren't playing = 1/2 - 1/9 (why 1/2 ? because, team has an equal number of right- and left-handed players)

= 5/18

Of those playing, 2/3rd were right handed ==> 2/3 of 1/3 right-handed players were playing == 2/9

Right-handed players who weren't playing = 1/2 - 2/9

= 7/18

Required = (5/18) / (7/18)

=5/7

Answer:

male absentees to female absentees ratio = 7:5

STEP BY STEP EXPLANATION:

step 1

let total number of members be x

therefore, total no.of males = x/2

total no. of females = x/2

step 2

on a certain day, no.of absentees = 2x/3

so, no.of members present = x/3

step 3

given, of the members present , one third was male.

therefore, no.of males present = 1/3 × x/3 = x/9

so, no. of females present = x/3 - x/9 = 2x/9

step 4

the no.of males absent that day

= x/2 - x/9 = (9x-2x)/18 = 7x/18

the no.of females absent that day

= x/2 - 2x/9 = (9x-4x)/18 = 5x/18

step 5

the ratio of male and female who were not present on that day = 7x/18 : 5x/18 = 7:5
