Given : A club has <100 members.

To nearest whole number 28% of the members are former committee. 29% are current committee,42% have never been on the committee. Again to nearest whole number, 36% of former committe are

women and the number of women in former committe are 10.

To  Find :  the total members

Solution:

Let say Members = M

28% of the members are former committee = 0.28M

Nearest whole number = K

36% of former committe are women and the number of women in former committe are 10.

=>  9.5  ≤ (36/100)K  < 1 0.5

=> 950 ≤ 36K   < 1050

=> 26.4 ≤ K   < 29.16

=>  K can be  27  or  28

26.5 ≤  0.28M  < 28.5

=> 2650 ≤  28M < 2850

=>  94.6  ≤ M < 101.8

=>  M can be 95 to  99 as members are less than 100

28%      29%      42%       Total

95 26.6 27.55 39.9

27         28         40       95  Whole number

96 26.88 27.84 40.32

27         28         40          95   Whole number

97 27.16 28.13 40.74

27           28              41 96 Whole number

98 27.44 28.42 41.16

27          28          41         96  Whole number

99 27.72 28.71 41.58

28          29            42    99  Whole number

Total Members can be 95 or 99
