A code word is to consist of two english alphabets followed by two distinct numbers between 1 and 9. for example, ca23 is a code word. how many such code words are there?

The code requires 4 places to be filled. 2 of those places are alphabets and the other 2 are numbers.
We know there are 26 alphabets in the English language. So the number of possible combinations are 26C2, since we're selecting 2 alphabets from 26.
The number of ways to select the numbers is similar. There are 9 numbers to choose from and we're choosing 2. So the required combinations are 9C2.
Finally, each of the combinations of the alphabets can be paired with a combination of numbers. So the total number of codewords are 26C2 * 9C2
