a coil in the heater consume power p on passing current . if it is out into halves and joined in parallel, it will consume power: 4p.

  • Given,
  • a coil in the heater consumes power = p
  • let r be the resistance of the coil.
  • if it is out into halves and joined in parallel, then the resistance of the coil gets reduced to half = r/2
  • we have a formula for the power given by,
  • p = v^2/r
  • power, when the coil is cut into halves and joined in parallel, is given by,
  • p' = v^2 / r/2 + v^2 / r/2 = 2v^2 / r/2 = 4 v^2/r
  • ∴ p' = 4 p
