A coil of resistance 10 ohm and an inductance of 5 henry is connected to a 100 volt battery. The energy stored in it is....

solution : in case of L-R circuit,

energy stored in the inductor. i.e., E = 1/2 Li² , where L is inductance of inductor and I is current through it.

given, R = 10Ω and emf of battery, V = 100 volts

from ohm's law,

i = V/R = 100/10 = 10A

now, energy stored in it, E = 1/2 × (5H)× (10A)² = 250 J

Explanation:

E=1/2Li^2, E=1/2×10×v/R=1/2×10×50/10=125joule
