Given,

Cost of TV inclusive of VAT is = Rs 13440

Original cost of the TV is = Rs 12000

So, let us consider the rate of VAT = x%

VAT at the rate of x% on Rs 12000 = Rs x/100 × 12000 = Rs 120x

So,

12000 + 120x = 13440

120x = 13440-12000

120x = 1440

x = 1440/120

= 12

∴ Rate of VAT = 12%

Answer:

Cost of the TV including VAT = Rs. 13400

Let the rate of VAT be x% .

Cost of the TV = x% of 12000 + 12000

13440 - 12000 = 12000 \times  \frac{x}{100}

13440 - 12000 = 120x

120x = 1440

x =  \frac{1440}{120}

x = 12

Therefore , the rate of VAT on the colour TV is 12% .

Hope it will help you
