Given:

No. of employees = 150

Ratio of men to women = 7:8

Percentage of women in Sales function = 50%

Percentage of men in Sales function = 40%

Percentage of women in HR function = 30%

Percentage of men in HR function = 30%

Percentage of women in Operations function = 20%

Percentage of men in Operations function = 30%

No. of men in both HR and Sales = 7

No. of women in both HR and Sales = 9

No. of men in both Operations and Sales = 5

No. of women in both Operations and Sales = 8

No. of men in all three functions = 2

No. of women in all three functions = 3

To find:

The ratio of men to women only in the HR function.

Solution:

The company has both men and women employees of 150 in number. The ratio of men to women is 7:8.

Let the no. of men be 7x and the no. of women be 8x.

Then, on adding them gives the total no. of employees.

7x+8x=150

15x=150

x=\frac{150}{15}=10

Thus, no. of men = 7x=7*10=70

No. of women = 8x=8*10=80

Percentage of women in HR function is 30% of total women.

Hence, no. of women in HR = \frac{30}{100}*80=24

Percentage of men in HR function is 30% of total men.

Hence, no. of men in HR = \frac{30}{100}*70=21

Thus, ratio of men to women in HR function only is:

No. of men in HR/No. of women in HR = \frac{21}{24}=\frac{7}{8}

∴ Ratio of men to women in HR function is 7:8.

Ratio of men to women only in HR function is 7:8
