c) an octahedral geometry.

A complex involving dsp² hybridisation ion has an octahedral geometry.

Lets say I have to find hybridisation of [Ni(CO)4] and [Ni(CN)4]2−.

The metal atom/ion in these compounds are Ni and Ni2+ respectively.

The outer shell configuration for Ni in [Ni(CO)4] would be 4s2  3d2xy 3d1yz 3d1zx 3d2z2 3d2x2−y2  4p0  4d0
