The compound X is Ferrous sulphate(FeSO4). On heating, it decomposes into Ferric oxide(Fe2O3) which is reddish brown in colour along with Sulphur dioxide(SO2) and Sulphur trioxide(SO3).
The reaction is:
2FeSO4-->Fe2O3+SO2 +SO3

Hi there,

Answer: Ferrous Sulphate

Ferrous Sulphate is heated, it gives Ferric oxide, Sulfur dioxide, and Sulphur trioxide after Decomposition. It Produces Sulfur dioxide gas which gives Suffocating smell of burning Sulfur. We left with Reddish brown color residue after heating of Compound. Thermal Decomposition Reaction well suits for these types of reactions.

Below is the equation of given Reaction:

2FeSO4(Heating)----> Fe2O3(s) + SO2(g) + SO3(g)

Hope it helps you.
