Voluntary actions are those actions which are under our control and can be performed at will. They are controlled by the brain and always result in a muscular action. Involuntary actions are those actions which take place due to the triggering by a stimulus. They are controlled by the brain and can result in a muscular action or secretion by a gland. Digestion is an involuntary action as the churning of food, release of gastric juices etc. is not under our control and the bolus is the stimulus that triggers these actions.
