Mirror Formula

→ 1/f = 1/v + 1/u

  • u = ?
  • v = - 50
  • f = - 20

→ 1/(- 20) = 1/(- 50) + 1/u

→ - 1/20 + 1/50 = 1/u

→ (- 5 + 2)/100 = 1/u

→ - 3/100 = 1/u

→ - 100/3 = u

- 33.3 = u

Hence the object should be placed 33.3 cm before the mirror.

Answer : - 33.3

hope this helps u

given:-

u = -50cm

f = -20cm

v= ?

steps:-

⇒1/f=1/v+1/u

⇒1/v=1/f-1/u

⇒1/v=1/-20-[1/-50]

⇒1/v= -1/20+1/50

l.c.m of 20,50 is 100

⇒1/v= -5+2/100

⇒1/v= -3/100

⇒v = 100/-3

⇒v = -33.3 cm
