A concave mirror of Radius of curvature 12cm forms a real image 3/2 times the size of given object. Find the object distance and image distance.

Explanation:

R = 12cm  

m = 3/2  

Thus, f= 12/2 = 6 cm

 

m equals fraction numerator negative v over denominator u end fraction  

3 over 2 equals fraction numerator negative v over denominator u end fraction

3u = -2v

Thus, u = -2v/3  

3u + 2v =0

By mirror formula,  

1/f = 1/ v + 1/ u

 

Thus,

1/ (-6) = 1/ (v) + 1/(-2v/3)

Solving this we get,

v  = 3 cm  

Thus,  

3u = -2 × 3  

Thus,  

 

u = - 2 cm  

Thus, image distance is 3 cm and object distance is 2cm
