And 50 more boxes were brought, so,

X+50

"x+50" of these boxes were used up and 40 boxes left.

i.e. (X + 50) - Y( number of boxes used) = 40

X + 50 - Y = 40

X + 50 = 40 + Y

50 - 40 = Y -X

10 = Y - X
