A constant force of 5 N can produce an
acceleration of 1 m/s2 on the body of mass m
and 2 m/s2 on the body of mass m,. If both the
masses are tied together and the same force is
applied, then what will be the acceleration of the
system?

Answer:

Body 1:

mass = m,

force = 5N

acceleration = 1m/

F = ma

5 = m × 1

mass = 5 Kg

Body 2:

mass = m

force = 5N

acceleration = 2m/

F = ma

5 = m × 2

mass = 2.5 Kg

Case III,

mass = 5 + 2.5

= 7.5 Kg

Force = 5N

acceleration = a

F = ma

5 = 7.5 × a

acceleration = 5/7.5

or

acceleration = 0.67 m/
