f=12cm. v=48cm. u=?
by lens formula i.e. 1/f=1/v - 1/u
1/12 = 1/48 - 1/u
1/u = 1/48 - 1/12
1/u = 1-4/48
1/u = -3/48
1/u = -1/16
u = -16cm
by lens formula i.e. 1/f=1/v - 1/u
1/12 = 1/48 - 1/u
1/u = 1/48 - 1/12
1/u = 1-4/48
1/u = -3/48
1/u = -1/16
u = -16cm

Answer:
Explanation:
Given :-
Focal length of converging lens, f = 12 cm
Image distance, v = 48 cm
To Find :-
Object distance, u = ??
Solution :-
Using lens formula, we get
1/f = 1/v - 1/u
1/u = 1/v - 1/f
⇒ 1/u = 1/48 - 1/12
⇒ 1/u = 1 - 4/48
⇒ 1/u = - 3/48
⇒ u = - 48/3
⇒ u = - 16 cm
Hence, the distance of the object from the lens is 16 cm.
