Given:

Focal length of the lens = 10cm

Size of the real image = 3 times

To Find:

Distance of the object from the lens

Solution:

Here f = +10 cm ( Positive for a convex lens)

Magnification = -3 ( Since image is real it will be inverted)

m = -(v/u)

where is the distance of an image and is the U distance of an object.

-3 = -v/u

v = 3u

Lens formula = 1/f = 1/v +  1/u

= -1/u+1/3u=1/10

= -2/3u=1/10

u = -20/3

= -6.66 m

Answer: The distance of the object from the lens is -6.66m
