a convex lens of focal length 20cm can produce a magnified virtual as well as real image is this a correct statement if yes where should the object be placed in each case of for obtaining this images​

Yes a convex mirror of focal length 20 cm can produce:

  • Magnified , virtual and erect image

  • Real image

Position of the object in such cases:

1st case:

  • In order to get a virtual , magnified , erect image ; the object has to be placed on the Principle Axis at a distance lesser that the focal length of the lens.

  • This means that the object has to be placed between focus and optical centre of lens.

  • In that case : u < f

2nd case:

  • Apart from the first case , in all positions , a convex lens produces real and inverted images.
