A copper cube having a length of 10cm
on each side is heated from 10°C to
110°C. If a = 12 x 10-6/°C, change
in volume in c.c. is
6
(A) 6.3
(B) 0.63
(C) 3.6

Given :

Length of the cube = 10 cm

Initial temperature = 10°C

Final temperature = 110°C

α = 12 * 10 ^ (-6) / °C

To find :

The change in volume in c.c.

Solution :

Initial volume = 10 * 10 * 10 = 1000 c.c.

after heating new length , l = length ( 1 + α (change in temperature) )

=> l = 10 ( 1 + 12 * 10 ^ (-6) * 100 )

=> l = 10.012 cm

new volume = 10.012 * 10.012 * 10.012 = 1003.6 c.c

Change in volume = 1003.6 - 1000 = 3.6 c.c

The change in volume is 3.6 c.c.
