If a cow contains 16 chromosomes, then it will contain 8 pairs of homologous chromosomes.

EXPLANATION:

During metaphase, the cow will have 8 chromosomes. This is because during the metaphase, the chromosomes are lined up in pairs. These chromosomes are connected with spindle fibres that are formed by centrioles.

The centriole then breaks down during the anaphase. The chromosomes contain DNA for living beings and are very dense. Chromatin during cell division condenses to form what is known as chromosomes.
