A cricket player extend his hand forward while catching a ball and instantly pull back.
The fact behind this act is related to the momentum.actually momentum means the product of mass and velocity.
when a ball is thrown to the catcher, then ball have mass and velocity both.mass which contained in it and the the velocity which is gained on throwing ball.due to this high momentum it will hurt the hand of catcher.
therefore , in order to protect his hand ,catcher pull back his hand.so that his hand will get the same velocity as ball.
